We, as staff and parents of The Phoenix School, believe that a quality early childhood program must meet the needs of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. We are, therefore, a non-profit, child-centered school. We believe in immersing children in an enriching environment and a caring and nurturing atmosphere.
We understand that children should be exposed to developmentally appropriate curriculum, which offers “hands-on” learning experiences and play for their physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth. We are committed to offering a program that is lead by an experienced, well-trained staff dedicated to early childhood education through the use of developmentally appropriate practice and a positive, loving attitude toward children.
Our Babies Room teachers have cumulatively over 50 years experience working with infants. Our teachers provide nurturing interactions with the children throughout the day while supporting and encouraging each infant’s individual development. Our caregiver/infant ratio is 1:4, allowing teachers to provide plenty of individualized attention.

Our young toddler (12 – 24 months) classroom is where children begin experiencing self-help skills. Our teachers encourage little ones to learn how to eat and drink independently, wash hands with help, and participate in clean up activities. Children also begin to learn how to react toward peers in socially acceptable ways all through the loving guidance of their classroom teachers. Our teacher/toddler ratio is 1:5.

Our older toddler (24 – 36 months) class is where children begin to show more and more independence. Children are encouraged to practice making choices, which enables them to build a sense of self. Potty training is encouraged at this age but never forced. Teachers work with parents and child once the child begins to show signs of interest. Our teacher/older toddler ratio is 1:6.

Children (36 – 48 months) begin to discover the joy of cooperative play in our preschool classroom. Learning through play allows children to discover such important life skills as taking turns, problem solving, and self-regulation. Pre-writing and reading skills are developed through such activities as art, dramatic play and read alouds. Our teacher/student ratio is 1:8.

Our Georgia state funded Pre-Kindergarten program is housed within our early learning center. Pre-K hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Our shool offers before and after care for those who participate in our Pre-K program.
The Phoenix School’s Pre-K utilizes a curriculum approach based largely on High/Scope, which is aligned with the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS). We recognize that each child learns at his or her own pace, and offer activities appropriate to their development. Plan/Do/Review is a major part of each day. Children will experience both child-directed and teacher-directed activities throughout the school day.
Our teacher/student ratio is 1:11.

We believe that children should be exposed to opportunities that offer “hands-on” learning experiences and play for their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth. Therefore, we provide many enrichment programs such as music, Spanish, dance, yoga, and soccer.
